You, knowing that he hasn’t given you everything you need to work with, agree to begin building his website.

Your customer/friend understands that he didn’t convey to you what he wanted the business or hobby website to look like because he couldn’t remember the original vision he had.

He understands that what he has provided you with isn’t all that he would have liked to have supplied or enough for you to know exactly how to finish the website.

However, he has confidence in your abilities and entrusts you with the task of building his website.

You begin the project and even though it seems challenging, without all of the materials, you work things out to look really good. But, there are still a few things that you need his input on.

In years past written content was enough to have on your website in order for the search engines to like your pages.

You will find a checklist of important things to have on your website pages further down the page, but don’t bypass the good stuff in the middle.

I truly believe that if you combine the checklist elements with good Homestead SEO, you will find your website pages in the top of the search engine results pages.

As the Internet continues to evolve, there are other important factors other than written content that Google, Yahoo and Bing are considering to be important.

In fact, I recently read an article where SEO experts were discussing the possibility of  Facebook (FB) “Likes” being used in the algorithms to help determine a website’s rank in the SERPS.

Have you noticed how people are placing the FB like icon on all of their post pages these days and encouraging people to click on them?

“In this video, Clay suggests that likes, referrals, and recommendations will become major part of all the ranking algorithms used by search engines. Recently, Ezine articles was effected by Google’s algorithm changes. The CEO of the article directory website has reported that they have experienced a huge traffic drop since the Panda update. The initial report was around a twelve percent decrease in traffic.

Now, this is just my opinion, but Ezine articles only allows its members to post written content. It appears to me that Google considers just written words on a page to be “old school.”

Hear me out on this one. Content is more than just words on the page. Did you know that every minute 24 hours of video footage gets uploaded to Youtube? Yet, Ezine doesn’t have a video section on their website.

What do you like to experience when you visit a web page?

I personally like to be able to watch videos, view images and quickly skim over the written words. Did you know the only images that can be found on Ezine articles are the member’s profile images.

Google feels that images are so important that they have designated an entire section that displays billions of images on every topic you can image.

Here’s a checklist of things I feel should be incorporated on our website pages:

• Images
• Add Videos to Homestead Website
• RSS Feeds
• Alt Tags On Intuit Website Images
• Written Content

If you have all of the above checklist elements incorporated on your website and have a good handle on Intuit SEO, you should do well in the search engine results pages.

If you can give your visitors the best possible user experience through using all of these elements, then I believe that Google will see your website as an informative site. After all, the search engines want to give their searchers the most informative results that will provide the best user experience.

With this in mind, we should give our visitors a full-course meal and not just an appetizer.

Does your opinion matter to Google about what is showing in the search results? Apparently so because they have a designated forum thread where you can share your thoughts about what has been happening in the search results since the update went live.

Have your rankings taken a big dive since the Farmer/Panda update that Goolge initiated? Did you experience a giant drop in traffic? Where can you tell Google about what has happened?

If you are one of the unfortunate ones who fall in the twelve percent 12% of the websites that have been negatively effected by the Panda move, you can voice your opinion in the Google forum.

Now, they have made it clear that this was an algorithm change. Here’s a small bit of what is posted on the forum thread where you can voice your opinion:

“Note that as this is an algorithmic change we are unable to make manual exceptions, but in cases of high quality content we can pass the examples along to the engineers who will look at them as they work on future iterations and improvements to the algorithm. “

I was one of the fortunate ones whose sites did not get hit by the Farmer update. However, many of my pages have been forced down a placement or two because eHow or Demand Media pages seemed to have gotten a favorable raise out of the update.

There are several people who have voiced their opinion about Demand Media and the shallow content that this website manufactures in the one million pages they publish every month. The changes that were made were supposed to be targeting the large content farms and scraper sites. Ezine Articles reported a significantly big drop in traffic after the last Panda algorithm tweak. While eHow still dominates the front-page of Google throughout a large scale of niche topics.

If I’ve learned anything at all since I’ve been publishing pages to the Internet, things can change for the good or bad in an instant. When Google makes changes, inevitably there are going to be large and small websites who get hit hard, experience huge drops in traffic and have big changes to make in order to recover. This is why I feel it’s important to be diversified and have several websites and blogs about various niche topics that you are knowledgeable about.

Example Of Monetizing WP Images

Very few people realize that the WordPress blog program has an excellent feature for making additional money through utilizing the images description. For years the top SEO advisers have been telling us to give our images an alt tag. This is critically important because your photo can get listed in the Goolge images when you add the alt tag.

Today, I want to take this a step further. Don’t just give your WordPress photos an alt tag. You need to fill in the title and take time to describe the image. The title should be a targeted keyword phrase that is not being focused on in the main article. Don’t over stuff your keywords in this area. Just use descriptive words that are not necessarily in your article.

You can monetize the image description area in two ways.

• Add a hyper link in the description that will take visitors to the website page where the image originated from. Yes, you can use the href HTML hyper link code in this area and it will create an active link that can be clicked on.
• Add an Adsense unit in the description. Yes, you can post the java script code in the WordPress image description area. Refer to this article explaining what is allowable by Google in relation to Adsense and Images being used together.

Here’s why filling in the description area is really important. If you only add an alt tag you will only have a chance at being found in the Google Images results. The moment you write a decent description of the photograph, you have just created a separate page in WordPress that has enough content on it to be listed in the search engine results pages. What happens is because the keyword density of the image description is so rich in relation to the amount of content used to describe the photo, Goolge will give you top placements in the SERPS.

This top ranking page may only be short-lived due to the amount of content used on the page, but it still gives you another opportunity to cash in on advertising dollars by monetizing the image page.

When a visitor to your main article clicks on the image to enlarge it, they will be taken to the page that has the description of the image on it. Your Adsense add or affiliate information will be right there waiting for them to click on it. This is so much better than displaying an image “only” when a visitors clicks on the photograph while reading the main article.

Can you see how this can increase your Adsense and affiliate revenue. Monetize your images in this way and you will make more money online with your WordPress blog.

Prior to running the advertisements on Youtube, five percent of the people who have opted-into my email list have purchased a product. The honest truth about my experience so far with the Youtube promoted videos is that the optin rate has not increased and neither have my conversions. I have seen a small increase in visitors coming to my site.

Looking at my statistics so far (see image above), the cost per click (CPC) is very low. An average CPC for this niche on the Adwords network is about thirty cents per click. What really concerns me is that I am not seeing an increase in traffic, optins or conversions. Now there have been many thousands of impressions. I’ve also had four hundred and fifty (450) clicks on the Youtube promoted video.

So how should I look at this?

Well there are two ways and my goals define whether or not I should continue using Youtube promoted videos or not.

If I am simply seeking to get exposure for my website through advertising, then this seems to be a reasonably priced way to get my website in front of a lot of niche targeted people. I mean, it only cost twenty seven ($27) dollars to have four hundred and fifty people view information about my product and website location.

If my goal is mostly based on making product sales conversions, perhaps I haven’t tested this long enough. I mean, through SEO I make three sales (totaling $120) per every twenty seven hundred visitors (2700). What happens when I do the math?

I’ve already spent twenty seven dollars ($27) on Youtube promoted videos to get four hundred and fifty clicks with very few people actually coming to my website. If I hold out to the point of getting 2700 Promoted Video clicks, it will cost me one hundred and sixty two dollars ($162). It seems like I’m wasting my money if I am seeking to get conversions, when the clicks on the videos are not bringing people to my website.

I’d say that Youtube Promoted videos are definitely working to get my website name and product in front of people. For actual conversions, this short-term experiment is bombing out. It makes sense though, most of the people on Youtube are there to watch videos-not go clicking off to some other website.

Consider the following points that the author of the Youtube video makes about good web design:

1. With good web design-less is almost always more.
2. A common mistake is to try and WOW the user.
3. Better to focus on your central message, find quality images. One large quality image on the main page is worth more than two hundred bad images inside.
4. When you design a website, it’s not youwant to please; it’s your visitors you want to please.
5. You want to impress them with the product or service you offer, not your web design.
6. Good web design is clean, crisp, honest and sometimes a little unpredictable.
7. Form follows function. Start with the information that you want to convey to the public.
8. Write down your information, organize it and then design your website around those things, not the other way around.
9. The first page of your website is far more important than all the other pages because that’s the one your visitors will see first.

Think about what you are doing and study other website designs before building anything. Don’t push your visitors away by having so many choices, colors or images that they become paralyzed with confusion and click off of the landing page. Attention spans are short.
